Wedding of Jerry & Irene

December 2007 saw a very joyous wedding of Jerry and Irene.. This is one couple who is totally unpretentious and utterly in love with one another. Irene is really one bride who is completely not worried about not looking like 'the most beautiful and graceful bride'. And Jerry was game for anything the jie-meis threw at him. Perhaps what really touches me is the ROM.. Witness only by relatives and close friends behind closed doors, the evening light simply puts a very lovely touch to it's simplicity.. Joy and tears, without any reminder, just flows.

In the end, everyone had alot of fun and it's definitely one of the weddings i will remember for year 2007.

3rd January saw a very meaningful day for me. It was their ROM that kick started my photography career some years ago and i have the honour of covering their wedding with my free spirit eye again. The wedding was simple affair, but nevertheless one of the most beautiful wedding i have ever witness. My sister-in-law's parents and brother came all the way from Japan and took part in this beautiful and fun-filled wedding. Language never became a obstacle even for my parents, who can hardly speak a word English. Japanese was out of question. Our in-laws could hardly understand our customary wedding traditional but with all the laughters and tears, there is no doubt that they enjoyed it.

oh yes, kudos to my new D300. It cannot be compared to the D3, but as far as i am concerned, it has bring my wedding photography to a new level. I am pretty excited at the almost limitless boundary that i can do with this amazing camera.

In October, i travelled across the causeway to cover the wedding of Vito & Jae-Lynn.. and man it totally blast me away that it could be so beautiful. The initial mixed feelings of excitement and sceptics was completely replaced by trying my cool after seeing more and more pictures turning out on my LCD, and man i was really on cloud nine.

What particularly impressed me was the pace of the wedding, which seems to favour the photographer. Hahaa.. And also the bride Jae-Lynn, which was so creative and cool in getting the shots. Thanks Jae-Lynn, i had fun and it was really great communicating with you and getting the shots.

September saw the wedding of Dave & Wendy, my first couple who signed up with me when i started littleweddingday.com. It was a long wait to their wedding and i am so glad i was there. It's one of those rare chinese weddings where you don't have to tell them how to kiss each other and they could do it perfectly. And they are not afraid to show their appreciation and love to all that was present at the wedding, including me. Haha.. I think, with all those great moments from gate crashing to the wedding dinner, this day will be something that's gona stay with them forever. And honestly, i had a wonderful time and i couldn't ask for more. Thanks guys!

This is a true blue journalistic shot that i always love about weddings.

Quiet moments.
The only thing that bother me about this shot is that her gown made her look 'bloated'.

But such fleeting moments are so precious, it's probably not going to affect me that much.

Bouquet toss.

This picture would really be captivating if we have the blue skies couped with brillant colour of the west.

But as it is, i think this one worked for me now. Just that i didn't take notice of the distracting foliage on the bottom right.

Earlier this month, i got the privilege to witness and document the customary wedding of Maverick & Sandy. I have been known the bride's family for quite some time now and her brother Stanley has been my best and most supportive friend for 18 years. To date, i think this must be the most heart-warming wedding i have been to. It's definitely a whole lot different meaning, seeing so many people you known for so long, break in joyful tears.

I think some of my clients must be quite concerned by now. Okay, i am still alive. Just really busy with work. Will be posting a few set of pictures soon. Yeah.. soon.

Well there's been alot things going through lately. First i am partially working for a relative, and also having the privilege of also shooting for 39 East. I think there is so much to learn and i am just so happy to find a great guy to assist to. Now my mind is constantly filled with informations from all around. Someone just complained that i always fell asleep in church. The Lord said, 'For he who is without sin, let he be the first one to cast the stone.' Well, for the benefit of non-God believing, non-bible reading people, they all walk away.

Assisting Kuang is perhaps one of the milestone step in my wedding photography. Whether it's business or technical. My pictures, though not getting better yet, are getting more consistent. hmmm... more consistent means better right? Oh well, there's probably a difference but i just can't say how and what. And soon, i hope i will be getting new body to work with. I still love my old body, but it's getting too slow. The fact that i have to use ISO 800 max and still having just f1.4 / 1/20s has been ignored for too long. Well, I like to live with the fact that i could use a technically inclined D70 for so long and still make great shots. Okay, my current mentor makes it bluntly that he thinks i am broke. Well. Okay. I was, and probably will be for awhile. Anyways, there are some talks going on with how this whole assisting thing will turn out to be.. Keeping everything open till something more concrete is finalised. Probably will take quite awhile, that is.

Well, just finishing a shooting a wedding in JB Hyatt on Saturday. I kind of pull through. Made some great shots and I think they will be really happy with the shots. So it's not bothering me so much now. But, i will be looking at the D300... or the much appraised S5pro, which Gabriel is using.

A great weekend

Last weekend was really a great one, ending off with a high note from Pastor Prince's powerful sermon. The battle is the Lord's. Truly. It's amazing how our senior pastor delivers one after another powerful messages of the Lord week in week out. His interpretation of the word of God is simply amazing, yet amazingly simple. To be exact, it's the grace of God. You see.. I always believed in God. But i'm perpetually.. well.. distracted by so many other things in life.. And not reading the word of God. Now.. i bought books, CDs.. You get it.
Pastor Prince and his ministry.. is truly amazing. More so the grace of our Lord. More than anything else in the world. Amen.

Met up Jerry and Irene on Saturday evening to look at their ballroom. For those who are curious, i always like to go through the wedding preparation with my clients. I meant, really GO through, and not like reading program sheets from emails. Of course that is subjected to time but i do put in quite a fair bit of effort to really see that everything will be put in place for their perfect day. Well back to the main point, i really enjoyed myself spending time with them. They are like.. you know.. simple and fun people.. And Irene really provided me with alot of invaluable insights as to my wedding photography business direction. Well.. I am venturing into pre-weddings soon! For those who knows me personally, i hated doing pre-weds. Period.

Anyway, she really did her homework before engaging me and i really appreciate it. I like people to make comparisons and really choose their wedding photographer. I am sure most full time photographers, who are at where they are now, 250/hr... 500/hr... understands the point about getting the right clients, and of course letting the clients get the photographer of their first choice. You see.. We are bunch of weird people who doesn't really like to hear our clients talk about 'i want you to capture this and that'. Well maybe it's just my own personal opinion. I'm sorry, maybe i shouldn't generalize. Anyways, i really appreciate people who love my works.

Ya anyways, really had a great time catching up with them.. Though they always have funny ideas like suggesting me to put pictures of myself on my website. Well, after some corny jokes and stuffs, i manage to convince them it doesn't work for me. Haaha.. anyways, they are so cool and i'm really looking forward to their wedding.

Lastly, i welcome anyone who is interested in letting me do their pre-weds photos. My emphasis is very much fun-oriented. I mean, genuine smile works best for me and my works. Of course in second priority is creating art. So, feel free to buzz me for a little chat. I am quite a easy-going guy really.

Lionel and Linny got hitched on 07.07.07. Says it all erm? Haha..

This wedding is one which i got to enjoy myself so much that i had no qualms about staying an extra one and half hour for the couple. And i am glad i did, managed to steal a couple of keeper here.
The little time we had for a short walk around cityhall area was really fun. They were really cool people to work with. Well, in short.. I am not really a very vocal person when it comes to giving directions. But the pictures turned out exactly the way i wanted them to be. Lots of walking for the couple though.

I am really really tempted to break away from shooting Actual Wedding Day to do a few Pre-Wed shoots for 2007! Kind of really inspired! Jose is really amazing! Digging up some old wedding pics

After much fun of sewing and composing an impossible poem using some weirdest words at the gate crashing, Victor shows his masterpiece to Amy.

His children love him totally. And it's really not difficult to see why. Mr Tung senior is one of the funniest person in the house.

This picture is one that really brings back laughters. Amy was so so worried about tripping all over her gown that she had to practise the 'kicking'. I was just sitting on the comfortable sofa laughing and laughing at all her wild thoughts. Well thank God i didn't forget to snap a couple of shots while she 'kicked' around the room.

Old colonial charm. Absolutely one of most beautiful place for a wedding ceremony.

A wedding in early part of the year. I could still remember quite a fair bit of details of this wedding. It was blessed with good light and great people the entire day, which made my job so so much easier. A few minor hiccup here and there. Amy's gown had some trouble but it was nothing major as far as she is concerned. A few safety pins and grandma's good old sewing skills put into use, and all are well. The rings went missing for awhile till the best man realised he left it at home. Well this is something that i particularly admire about some brides. Nothing could bring down their mood. Enjoying the wedding more than anyone else. It's all laughters and fun, which is what a wedding should be all about. It's not about trying to make every single thing perfect. Perfect memories from your wedding doesn't come from making sure everything is in place and order. It's about sharing joy.

It was really amazing to be there at their wedding. It was really a pity they had someone else to cover second part of their celebrations in Penang as they thought it might be a little to expensive to bring us over. I would really really love to be there man.

Sidetrack a little.

So i suppose the notion of cutting down on the weddings i will take for this year is working well. Having 8 weddings in a month on a average for year 2006 was really really draining. Looking back, it was crazy. Things are looking great now. =)
